MEND Program

We can help you and your child develop a healthy lifestyle that lasts a lifetime.

Mind

The Mind component of MEND consists of eight sessions designed to improve the child’s self-esteem and address behavior change.

The Mind sessions cover goals and rewards, external and internal triggers, role modeling, and problem solving.

The final Mind session highlights the positive qualities of each child as identified by their MEND peers, parents, and leaders.  This serves to boost the child’s self-esteem and sense of self-worth

Exercise

The Exercise component of MEND includes fun-filled group activity play sessions, designed to improve the child’s fitness, strength, and self-esteem.

We believe that physical activity should be simple and fun, not rigorous or boring.  MEND offers a wide range of popular games and activities that may include kickball, tag, and playing with a Frisbee®.

Families learn how to add activity to the child’s day such as walking to school and helping with chores.

Nutrition

The Nutrition component of MEND consists of sessions on healthy eating and nutrition, aligned with dietary guidelines, while also considering the needs of overweight children.

These sessions cover topics such as healthy eating, label reading, portion sizes, shopping and cooking, and making healthy choices when eating out.

One of the highlights of the Nutrition component is a supermarket tour.  This is a fun way for families to learn to navigate the supermarket aisles and choose healthier foods.

Do It!

When the three MEND components — Mind + Exercise + Nutrition — are in play, the next step is action. The “Do It!” component reflects this action.

On the MEND Program, children and families work together as a team. This gives them the group support and motivation they need to help them make long-lasting changes, stay on track, and benefit from the entire MEND experience.
