Tuesdays – 4:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Fridays – 7:00 am – 7:30 am
(Plan to arrive 15 minutes early for your 1st visit. There will be no classes August 9th, November 26th, and November 29th.)

Marie Funk, MS, RD, LDN, Shawnee Health Care Dietitian is the facilitator and instructor for our Exercise Essentials program.

Come join Marie to get your body moving and start your journey toward a healthier life!

Attire:  Workout clothing with closed-toe athletic shoes.

Locker Rooms:  Lockers, showers, and saunas are available.

 


Exercise Essentials I

Getting Started at the Gym!

A FREE class where you can learn exercise fundamentals.

If you have been wanting to start exercising at a gym, this FREE class is perfect for you!

This class will discuss:

  • Benefits of regular exercise
  • How to use the machines & equipment
  • Recommended amount of exercise per week
  • Group fitness classes & personal training

All participants will receive a Weekly Exercise Guide.

This class meets at:
John A. Logan College
700 Logan College Road, Carterville
Community Health Education Complex, Room J224

Exercise Essentials II

Strength Training

A 30 minute training session where you can put into action what you learned in Exercise Essentials I.

Benefits of strength training:

  • Improve your fitness
  • Decrease body fat
  • Support bone and joint health
  • Boost energy levels
  • Stress relief – improve your mood
  • Help manage chronic disease

How to join:

  • Attend Exercise Essentials I before starting.
  • Call to register and reserve your spot.
  • Sign up for a John A. Logan Membership (with a prescription from your Shawnee Health Care doctor your first month is free.  Continuing membership is discounted for Shawnee Health Care patients).
  • A reminder call will be sent from Shawnee Health Care, Carterville clinic prior to session date.
  • Plan to arrive 15 minutes early for your first visit.
  • Come as often as you desire. There are no set number of classes.

This class meets at:

John A. Logan Fitness Center, the corner of the gym where the floor mats are located.

Agenda:

  1. Perform warm up exercise;
  2. Perform 6 essential exercise movements for a complete body workout;
  3. Perform cool down exercise.
