Children’s Dental Center

Shawnee Health’s Children’s Dental Center provides specialized pediatric dental services in a welcoming environment created specifically for children. This state-of-the-art center offers both routine dental care and advanced treatment options for children who need additional support to receive the care they need.

By expanding pediatric dental services here in southern Illinois, families can access specialized care closer to home while reducing barriers, wait times, and the need to travel long distance for treatment.

General Care | Suite A

General pediatric dental care is available for children as young as 12 months through age 12, and for children 12-18 with special healthcare needs who cannot be treated by the general dentist.

Services include:

  • Routine dental exams and cleanings
  • Dental X-rays
  • Fluoride treatments and fluoride varnish
  • Dental sealants
  • Restorations, including fillings
  • Extractions
  • Pulpotomies
  • Stainless steel crowns
  • Space maintainers

Each child will need to be individually evaluated to determine the level of care best suited for their dental, developmental, and medical needs.

Advanced Care | Suite B

The Children’s Dental Center Advanced Care offers advanced treatment under general anesthesia for children ages 3-12, when determined appropriate by the Pediatric Dentist and Anesthesiologist.

This level of care may be recommended for children who:

  • Need extensive or complex dental treatment
  • Are too young to comfortably remain still during treatment
  • Experience significant dental fear or anxiety
  • Have special healthcare needs that require additional support during dental treatment

Expanding Access to Pediatric Dental Care in southern Illinois

The Children’s Dental Center was developed to help address a significant need for specialized pediatric dental services across southern Illinois.

By bringing routine pediatric dentistry and advanced dental care together under one roof, we can reduce the barriers to treatment for all children, regardless of insurance type, so they can smile brighter, one tooth at a time.

“This investment from ILCHF allows us to create a facility that not only meets the dental needs of our youngest patients today but also sets the stage for healthier futures across our communities.”
