To improve the quality of life for the large population of migrant farmworkers in Jackson and Union counties, Shawnee Health Service begins to provide a primary health care program aimed at serving them.
Adolescent Health Center

The adolescent Health Center was developed in 1978 to provide a full range of medical, dental, and social services to young members of the southern Illinois community (ages 0-25).
Shawnee Health Service Founded

Shawnee Health Service and development corporation is established to initially provide training for hospitals and help develop programs to meet the shortage of medical care in urban areas.

Originally built on 14th Street in Murphysboro, the site was outgrown and a new health center was developed behind St. Joseph Memorial Hospital. A wide range of services were offered to maintain and enhance patient’s health.
Shawnee Alliance Social Service Division

Beginning with the development of a care coordination unit, Shawnee Health Service begins to build out a division of the organization specifically working towards improving access to social services throughout southern Illinois. Programs for older adults are eventually added including the Nursing Home Ombudsman Program and Adult Protective Services.
Shawnee Dental Center

Construction finishes up on Shawnee Health Service’s first stand alone dental center, a new 3,200 square foot building in Murphysboro. Dental diagnosis and general treatment services begin for persons of all ages.
Carterville Health Center

Shawnee Health Service purchases a running physician clinic and begins operating the Carterville Family Practice Center. This clinic opens up opportunities for a new range of the underserved populations in the area to receive affordable, quality, care. A new medical building was completed in 1988.
Shawnee Health Care OB/GYN

Shawnee Health Service purchases the facility and assumes practice of a Carbondale OB/GYN provider to allow women of any class to gain access to quality health care. The name is changed to Shawnee Women’s Health and Family Medicine.
Southern Illinois Respiratory Disease Program

Shawnee Health Service develops clinics and recruits specialists to the region to help coal miners with the problems of black lung and related disorders. These clinics recruited specialists from across the country and originated primarily to help coal miners with the problems of black lung and related disorders.
School-Based Health Centers

Teaming up with Carbondale Community Highschool, along with other local agencies, Shawnee Health Service announces the opening of two school-based health centers. School-based health centers provide convenient, affordable, high-quality medical, dental and social services to students, faculty, and members of the school district to promote physical and mental health.
Marion Campus

Family Medicine, behavioral health, and dental services are brought to the Marion campus. This increases the population Shawnee Health Service is able to serve and provides a centralized location for the health needs of our patients.
Carbondale Campus

Shawnee Health Service reaches completion of Carbondale Campus by adding medical and dental facilities. Current services have expanded to include things like addiction treatment, pediatrics, and pharmaceutical services.
Same Day Health Care Center

Shawnee Health Services opens a same day medical treatment clinic. This allows for patients to seek day of medical care for urgent minor illnesses and injuries.
