Dental Coverage

Dental Services for Adults have been restored for those
eligible for Illinois Medicaid!

As of July 1, 2014, the Illinois Medicaid card once again includes coverage for
adults for certain dental services. Covered dental services include:

 
  • Oral Exams (limited to 1st visit per dentist)
  • Restorative Services=fillings (amalgams, resins, crowns, sedative fillings)
  • Endodontic Services (for adults, limited to facial front teeth only)
  • Removable Prosthodontic Services (complete denture‐upper and lower, denture relines, maxillofacial prosthetics)
  • Oral and Maxillofacial Services (extractions, surgical extractions)
  • Adjunctive General Services (general anesthesia, IV sedation, nitrous oxide, conscious sedation, therapeutic drug injection)

Note: Some services require prior approval.

In addition to the dental benefits listed for all eligible adults, pregnant women
(prior to the birth of their child) are eligible for the following five preventive
dental services:

  • Periodic Oral Evaluation (exams)
  • Cleaning
  • Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing‐4 or more teeth per quadrant (deep cleaning)
  • Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing‐1‐3 teeth per quadrant (deep cleaning)
  • Full mouth debridement (gross removal of plaque and calculus)

Coverage for children (up to age 21) also includes preventive services including:

  • Prophylaxis – Cleanings (once every 6 months)
  • Topical Fluoride (annual)
  • Sealants
  • Space Maintenance
